The South Georgia Community Service Board was created pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 37-2-6. The purpose of the South Georgia Community Service Board is to provide mental health, developmental disability, and addictive disease services to the communities within the service area. Board members are appointed by the governing authority of each county for a term of 3 years. As required under O.C.G.A. § 37-2-6(h), at least 50% of Board members shall be clients or family members of clients of disability services and there shall be an equitable representation of the various disability groups. To ensure that each disability group served by the Board is well represented, the Board shall also strive to ensure that its members are reflective of the cultural and social characteristics, including gender, race, and ethnicities of the communities served.
